    Funcom employee Visited live in the new engine today

    ... just thought I'd share. We finished merging our two environments today (new engine and the normal one), so now we only have one development environment where both clients work.

    Obviously still a work in progress; there's a large amount of dynamic light sources (from players) that make it look a bit.. washed out.

    (and yes, we are going to look into why the ground mipmaps look a bit off)

    ..so.. can we play this yet? Or better yet, release it to the public?
    Also, will the old engine be optional albeit improved? I mean, so I can play smoothly at the expense of long-distant graphics while keeping decent up-close like.

    In the Old athens screenshot the textures look really poor at a short distance away is that on the max ground quality radius Macrosun? Looks pretty bad.

    It's obviously not what we're going to see if you look at the previous images/videos.

    I'm guessing it has something to do with it being live, different settings maybe.

    Maybe its me, but this vid looks miles better than the stills we've been given to look at today.

    was there any changes ...beside just shadows and some lighting? i turn my shadow off. looks graphically the same to me

    Pretty sure I could do better after 5 years.

    PS: I have no experience in gfx. The videos looked wayyyyyyyy better. OA doesn't look too bad but Bor looks awful.

    yep, the blurred normalmaps.
    it might look better if normalmaps would clip to certain mip-level... or not, cant really say.

    also the wall left from dreadloch add-board in borealis is surprisingly bright considering its supposed to be in shadow.

    anyway, im happy if that lighting comes.. it beats the stale ambient-light-only AO currently has.

    Well...after a few years development I can say it's a slow move in the right direction. I would be happy with a release and periodic asset improvements with new patches.
