has anyone noticed a bug running ao in cedega where shift + left clicking on an item to get its description turns the entire screen black?

It was the official Wine from WineHQ I was talking about but I used the wrong terms to describe it. The winehq builds doesn't support Specular Lighting in DirectX 7 but falls back to Ambient Lighting instead. Cedega (from cvs or from the prebuilt packages) does support Specular Lighting. The difference in AO would that with the official Wine all those extra light sources that are mounted on the walls and ceilings in missions wont light up the floor properly. In version 0.9.13 and versions older then 0.9.12 the ambient light was too low so I had trouble seeing my arms below my elbows. Version 0.9.12 and 0.9.14 are playable but I have trouble seeing items on floor or in the corners of rooms.Originally Posted by lusthorne
I thought the cedega cvs was the transgaming code tree without the licensed stuff like Dll files and copy-protection? If the cvs tree is some dated version of the real code with the goodies stripped out I feel less inclined to support Transgaming since cedega still gets my keyboard layout completely wrong.

Would it be possible for you to send a 'easy to follow' steplist for how you got AO working in your Ubuntu? I'm Ubuntu user myself, but kinda newbie in deep going hacks so if you could do that steplist for beginners like me it would be awesome!

if you get the .deb (binary) cedega package from transgaming..or somwhere else
its quite easy..just doubleclick the .deb file..and it will install itself..
after there should be a "cedega" entry on the menu somwhere..start cedega..and chose where to install from, downloaded from FC or CD.
in the cedega-how-to, comes with cedega..its explained how you can just copy the gamefolder over to the cedega dir..

and AO runs as good as under Windows.
Only bad thing is i need to disable the Massive Advertise (but i hope this will be "fixed" in the future)
does anyone else have problems using custom skin files? like jimfix/dove skin..etc
buttons are misplaced and without text/icons..ive tried many..but noone works for me
Yep, I had some problems some time ago and I still have. Just use the default skin :/
