Given no-one's updated it since around SL... (and since the replacement of the old GUI, most of the contents of Dovve's won't even be relevant anymore... I'm sure you could make a skin that had some of the feel of Dovve's, but you almost have to start over...)

Well yeah - it would take a lot of effort to do that, but hey no pain no gain i guess..
would have liked to have the skills to do more advanced skins but i am simply not good enough to make an ao skin - even though i like idea of new skins on the market

BTW An idea: Why dount the Kurt or someone clean up the AO skinn files so its only in one file, call a competition in re-skinning AO, the 3 besst skinns gets to be in AO as skinns that players can chose (not exactly huge files so they can easely be added in a pach) which one thay want to use whihtout spending houers on the web trying to find one... ( of corse also beeing abel to stay whiht FCs skinn)...

New Installation Instructions for Jimfixit
Hey folks. Way back when I was the guy who began the UI skinning mess *laugh* so I got my karma for violating the AO EULA tonight.
The instructions for installing Jimfixit's skin are a bit hard for the non-computer-savvy gamer. A friend who shall remain nameless has twice had major problems with the skin after UI changes. He knows about this thread and tried to follow it but both times it blew up for him.
So, I rewrote the installation instructions with some basic assumptions that the computer savvy can easily alter for themselves. I hope it is helpful to people who are wanting to install the skin and/or are having problems with it.
Any skin owner/packager is welcome to take the following and adapt it for use in a readme.txt, changing whatever is needed.
...
The following assumes:
A) You are using WinZip in classic mode. If not, alter to fit your zip extractor (WinXP users can just use explorer)
B) Your Anarchy Online installation is in the default install location on your C:\ drive. If not, adjust accordingly.
...
FIRST: If you have tried to install the skin and had problems, restore your backed up "gui" directory. IF you didn't back it up, find an AO friend and have them create a .zip of their "gui" directory (see step 1 below for the location) and send it to you. Delete your borked "gui" directory and replace it with theirs. Make sure they've patched to the current version (and that you have too). I won't post the files publicly, that would possibly violate copyright (I had to deal with this back in the 12.0 skinning days and FC never gave me permission to post "repair" archives).
SECOND: Hacking the GUI was a fun thing, and improves the game, but I no longer really recommend it. Memorizing keyboard shortcuts will get you almost all the fun of a hacked GUI. Not as pretty, I agree, but you won't get a borked skin every time FC makes a change to the UI. However ...
THIRD: To prevent problems during upgrades, if you see the Anarchy Online launcher asking if you want to patch, revert to the original GUI (see steps at the end). This will allow patching to work as normal and will also create a backup of your "gui" directory so that in the event that the patch breaks your hacked skin, you can still revert to a -patched- version of the new GUI.
...
1) Backup your "c:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\gui\" directory as per the original instructions by copying the "gui" directory to your desktop or to any other location you will remember. Just open "c:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\" in Windows Explorer and copy the "gui" directory to said safe spot.
2) Extract the files from the jimfixit.zip file to your desktop
NOTE: make sure you select the "Use Folder Names" option on the extract dialog.
3) Open the "jimfixit" folder on your desktop in explorer and then go into the "cd_image" subdirectory
4) click/highlight the "gui" folder and press "control" + "x" to cut the folder
5) open your "C:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\" folder in Windows Explorer
6) press "control" + "v" to paste the "gui" folder from step 4) above into "C:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\".
NOTE: If you get a "Confirm Folder Replace" message, click "Yes to All"
7) Open the "jimfixit" folder on your desktop in explorer and then go into the "cd_image" subdirectory again if you don't still have it open.
8) click/highlight the "textures" folder and press "control" + "x" to cut the folder
9) open your "C:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\" folder in Windows Explorer again if it is not still open.
10) press "control" + "v" to paste the "textures" folder from step 8) above into "C:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\".
NOTE: If you get a "Confirm Folder Replace" message, click "Yes to All"
11) On the AO log-in screen click Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Choose skin-file, then find "C:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\textures\jimskin2.3\GUIGFX.UVGI" by browsing in the drop-down menu, click "Open", click "OK", click "OK" again
12) When logged in, read the following hints below from the original Jimfixit installation.txt file:
"
This skin is designed to have certain options enabled/disables in the preferences menu.
In AO goto Preferences (F10) - GUI - Control Center and do the following...
Show Left Menu - OFF
Show Left Target Control - OFF
Show Left Bar - ON
Show Left Wing - OFF
Show Right Menu - OFF
Show Right Target Control - OFF
Show Right Bar - ON
Show Right Wing - OFF
Mini toolbar - ON
"
13) Read the "lagmenu.txt" files from the .zip file for advanced user information.
...
LAST: Reverting to the original GUI
Do this if:
a) you want to change back to the original skin and/or install a new hacked GUI
b) you want to make sure your GUI gets properly patched during any AO patch upgrades
14) This is fairly simple ... delete your "c:\program files\funcom\anarchy online\cd_image\gui\" and restore the copy you backed up during step "1" above.
15) On the AO log-in screen click Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Choose skin-file, then "Restore Default Skin" and click "Yes".
...
Enjoy!

Anyone had any luck removing that blue wash from certain elements? was working on a recolor today, and came across testing it that half my graphics came out green instead of bronze/brown. needless to say it looks like crap like that. Is this something that can be changed? I love the look of AO skins, but i'm really tired of the default blue skins.
