Here's another list of suggestions compiled from comments at some GSP
parties. This time, the topic was what we want Santa Leet to bring us
this year. I collected suggestions at different parties for over a
week, so there were quite a lot of them.
- the new graphics engine
This is the number one most wanted Christmas Gift this year, as long as
it works right. There's nothing quite so annoying as getting that one
great present you've been hoping for, and it turns out that "some
assembly required" was an understatement and it's going to take another
month to find all the missing pieces they didn't warn you about
beforehand. On the other hand, if you can get it all assembled and
polished, with the batteries included, nobody will care whether there
are a couple pretty trinkets in the stocking or not.
- Stockings
Speaking of stockings, there were requests for two kinds. Tights to
wear and big socks to place on the walls of apartments. Or maybe
they're even the same item? Either way, they'd have red and white
stripes, like candy canes.
- Permanent Christmas costumes
Several players wanted Santa Suits that don't expire. Personally, I
don't mind the timer on the suit. I do wish the hat stayed around
longer, though. Maybe a good compromise would be to leave the Santa
Suit alone and add some new permanent Christmas clothing items. There
were plenty of specific items suggested:
- Christmas Miniskirt
The Santa Suit is too long to be sexy. It's good for keeping warm in
the snow around the Christmas Tree in Borealis (not that it actually
accumulates), but it's not so good for dancing in front of the fireplace
in Reet Retreat all night, or even on the crowded Glass Dancefloor at a
big party. For those who find the Santa Suit too bulky and the Naughty
List thong too skimpy, a miniskirt is the middle ground.
- Santa Corset
Goes with the miniskirt - something in between a full-length coat and a
bikini. There's a good example of both at
http://www.scavengeinc.com/images/ro...et-costume.jpg
- Christmas nightie
A short nightie or teddy or camisole or something similarly slinky, in
sheer red satin.
- Red Leather Fur Lined Boots
Same red color as the Santa Suit with white on top. The suggestion
specified, "High-heeled for the ladies, steel toed for men and troxes,"
but I guess that would just be descriptive text in this engine. Maybe
the new engine will handle different boot meshes?
- Santa's Elf costume
Boyshorts, bikini top, Santa Hat with a bell instead of a white puff,
boots and gloves, all in green with white trim, each with a small scale
modifier to make the wearer elf-sized if they wear the whole costume.
- Bagpipes
Perhaps even similar to the theoretical ones listed by RecipeBot. Maybe
not quite so difficult to assemble, but that's what makes that fake
entry so funny. They're not exactly a handheld item, and not exactly a
shoulder item or back item. Maybe the new engine can handle hanging
something diagonally over one shoulder and under the other?
- "fr00b loops"
A cheap breakfast item, a parody of the "Froot Loops" sugary
fruit-colored breakfast cereal, but I don't think there's any more story
behind it than that.
- "h00ties"
A more expensive breakfast item. "woot" and "hoot" are common
expressions of excitement. "W00ties" came about as a sillier variation
and became associated with corn flakes because of the similarity to
"Wheaties." Almost immediately replaced by "H00ties" because of the
similarity to "hooters".
- "Cabbage Pants Kids"
A silly idea, probably too silly, but I thought it was funny. Atrox
dolls, a parody of the old Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. Maybe pull the
string on the back (right-click) to make them dance and/or say something
silly? Maybe phrases like the leets and reets say, but with more
references to Mongo.
- colored lightbars - detachable for raving
Perhaps this would work better in the new engine, but I've seen examples
recently of good colored lighting even in the current engine. The
problem is the scarcity of portable light sources of different colors.
Colored lightbars that could be worn on the back like the Newbie Island
lightbars for exploring, then removed and held in either hand for
dancing, would be terrific. Especially if right-clicking them cycled
their colors.
- cowbell
Handheld or worn around the neck, preferably with sound effects or
floating text quoting the famous Saturday Night Live skit featuring Blue
Oyster Cult and Christopher Walken. "I gotta have more cowbell!"
"Guess what? I've got a fever. And the only prescription... is more
cowbell!"
- purse
It's a fashion accessory, it's a container, and it's a one-handed blunt
weapon! How does she fit a dozen suits of armor, three yalms, a support
beam, two rocket launchers, and a whole notum field tower in there? The
nanobots did it. Does getting smacked upside the head with a purse full
of heavy powered assault armor boots feel like a wrecking ball? Not
quite; the genuine malle leather cushions the impact.
- rock candy
Similar to the candy the ARKs were handing out last Halloween that
turned players into mini-Hecklers for a little while, but this one turns
the user into a brightly colored, translucent Heckler of Crystalline
Sucrose. A random color each time. Purple, red, pink, light blue, lime
green, lemon yellow, any of the usual candy colors commonly associated
with fruit flavors.
- magic wands
Similar to the Adapted Notum Crystals, but ranged instead of melee, with
different shapes and more sparkles. Great for witch/mage costumes,
useful for casting or pet professions. Even better if they have trails
of sparkles when using social emotes with them. Should definitely be
selectable (choice of mission, perhaps?) or tradable, though. Otherwise
it would be much too hard to randomly get the one that's right for your
profession or costume preference.
- bring back some old Christmas items
- Mistletoe was a common suggestion, both from the players who remember
it and want it for their new characters and the newer players who
weren't aware that there ever was mistletoe in previous years.
- The Holiday Holograms are missed, too. There aren't very many of
those around any more. Newer players get all confused about this effect
they've never seen before and are disappointed that they can't get one.
- The dancing Clauses were great, too. There are still a few of those
around and it's always fun to see them come out, but they don't last
long enough and aren't reusable soon enough.
- summonable Santa Leet pet
Like the Spooky Leet Pet nano, Christmas edition. Variations could include:
- Santa Leet
- Reinleet (a leet with reindeer antlers)
- Elf Leet (green hat with a bell instead of red with a white puff,
maybe pointy ears, or pointy shoes?)
- Mrs. Claws (Cheerleet with a Santa hat and Naughty List Bikini?)
- "Frosty the Snowleet" (a leet made of snowballs)
- "Cooleet" (Frosty with sunglasses).
- Gingerleet (like the one who gave out the cookies last year)
- eggnog
Yeah, there was some inebriation in progress at that party. The great
thing about eggnog is mixing it. It's great in coffee, it's great with
various liquors, and it's great straight up with some nutmeg. Maybe
Menthol Coffee with Eggnog has a different effect? Maybe Enhanced
Coffee with Eggnog tastes less like tobacco and leather? Maybe pouring
a splash of Sugarfree Rum into a cup of Eggnog makes a consumable drink
that applies the rum's buff for an hour or so? And what happens when
you mix the rum and eggnog in the coffee? Is it just delicious, or does
it also make you smarter, faster, prettier, and stronger? Or does it
just make you think you are?
- wind-up leet toys
Functionally similar to the Dancing Santa and Dancing Mrs. Claus dolls,
but they're miniature leets that run around in circles, say something
leet, roll back and forth, and generally act cute. Preferably for a
little longer than the current dancing dolls, or at least reusable faster.
- reindeer antlers
A social headwear item, much like the Funny Arrow, but antlers. +42 to
Visible Silliness. No other effect.
- wreath
A circle of fir branches with holly, for decorating apartments.
Sometimes entwined with sparkling lights or glittering tinsel.
- Yule log
A decorated thick piece of tree that burns for a very long time, usually
accompanied by music, although I suspect musical burning logs would melt
the current engine. Placeable as furniture, like the campfires but one
big log, would be good. It was also suggested that it should be
wieldable as a one-handed blunt weapon with fire damage. As a social
item, that would just be 1 point of fire damage, though, not even enough
to melt the snowmen. I'm sure lots of people would get a kick out of
dancing around with a burning log in each hand. (See "ignitable
torches" Halloween suggestion.)
- Christmas tree as an Atrox 2hb weapon
Another furniture/weapon hybrid - the pine trees and Christmas trees
that Santa Leet brings every year, placeable and wieldable (probably
Atrox only - the scale would just look wrong when a tiny little Opichix
picks up a tree).
- Christmas dinner
Once we got onto the topic of food, a whole bunch of Christmas dinner
ideas came rapid-fire. I think it must have been around dinner time.
- whole roast turkey, placeable (big enough to look good on the dining
room table in the Sunrise Station apartments)
- big, juicy turkey legs, wieldable
- mince pies
- cheesecake (would it be possible to "use" the cheesecake to cut
slices from it?)
- mulled cider
- sleighbells
http://media.photobucket.com/image/s...hbells.gif?o=5
There were a couple different ideas for this. Maybe the same item could
serve more than one function. Right-click to switch it, perhaps? It
could be a one-handed blunt weapon to swing around while dancing,
jingling all the way. It could be worn as a belt or a bandolier (or
maybe as a top?) It could be placed on a wall as a decoration.
- vehicles
Lots of vehicle suggestions came up, mostly based on Santa's Sleigh, and
they all came down to three basic ideas:
- sleigh jetbike
- reindeer jetbike (shaped like a reindeer or just a brown and white
bike with antlers)
- reindeer and sleigh yalm (possibly animate the reindeer legs when the
sleigh moves forward?)
- Yutto rickshaw
As I was proofreading this, Nushen mentioned on stream that she wanted a
shuttle with a Yutto chauffeur, which brought up the idea of a Yutto
rickshaw, basically a hoverchair with a canopy on top and a Yutto in
front, pulling it along. Doesn't so much count as a vehicle, as I don't
expect it would be very fast. -1,000 runspeed was suggested, but that
might be a bit extreme.
- apartment fireplace
A hearth or fireplace to hang the stockings over, something like a
smaller version of the ones in Reet Retreat maybe. Preferably "usable"
to light/extinguish. The current engine seems to have difficulty
keeping those properly illuminating the room, but having the fireplace
and making its light work properly don't have to happen at the same time.
- snow carpet
Similar to the nice red carpet, but the color of the bottom of the
Gingerbread Yutto Tent. Preferably bigger than those, so the floor of
an apartment can be covered with snow and still have a couple other
items in it, like a snowman or two and a gingerbread house.
- goggles
This list was started shortly after Dragon Con, where chrome
steampunk-style goggles were apparently very popular. There's at least
one hat with goggles already, and several kinds of sunglasses, but I
don't think we have separate goggles. None of the sunglasses have arms,
just lenses perched on the bridge of the nose. Are the arms an engine
issue? Those would be rather necessary for goggles. If that would be a
problem in the current engine, please make sure it's on the checklist of
things the new engine should be able to do.
- gingerbread recipes
The gingerbread recipes last year were an interesting idea, but they
were still NODROP and only made the same cookies that were available for
free in other ways, and still only available for a limited time, so
there was no point in going to the trouble of making them. Giving out
gingerbread cookies for free as part of the event is good, but once we
have the recipe and (reusable!) cookie cutter from the event, it would
be much more fun to be able to make more later and give them away.
- mini shoulder snowman
Like the shoulder devil and angel, but a snowman.
- star light
A five-pointed star hovering over the shoulder. A light source like the
Floating Torch, but shaped like the stars some people put on top of
their Christmas trees.
- change passing cargo ships into sleighs
Not a new item, and I haven't seen something like this done before, but
there are patches before and after the events anyway, so I imagine it
would be possible. Whether it's too much hassle or too silly is
something you'll have to determine.
- the aliens that stole Christmas
There could be low-level alien raids in various cities, with the aliens
dropping Christmas Gifts. Basically, the aliens try to steal the
Christmas Gifts sitting around the tree and kidnap or kill the Santa
Leets and players try to stop them. It would give us a way to gather
Christmas Gifts other than nuke-farming Santa Leets, which really never
seemed much in the Christmas spirit to me. I guess the trick would be
giving the lowbies a chance to get something without getting
splattered. Maybe the aliens go after the Santa Leets out in the
fields, and we can attack either one to get the gifts. Maybe the wild
Santa Leets give a mission to defend them from the aliens?
