    Temporary SL NPC expedition camps

This idea was inspired by the OP and follow-up discussion in this thread.

The Shadowlands is supposedly constantly researched by science teams, mostly JAME, but I'd guess the RK factions also send their own teams. How about making those teams actually exist, by way of GMs or (Event)ARKs spawning several temporary NPC camps at random locations in each SL zone for a relatively long period (a few weeks) then removing them and creating a similar camp at some other location?

These camps would consist of a few tents or mobile buildings, some containers, crates and other equipment, a small number of NPC guards that react to mobs approaching the camp but do not leave the camp, only fire at what comes too close, and some other "scientist" type NPCs. NPC levels would be around the maximum mob level of the given zone, or maybe somewhat higher than that (equal to the brink mob level of the zone?), they would respawn shortly when killed, but they wouldn't give any XP or other loot.
Usable camp equipment could include a bank terminal, and maybe even a portable cell scanner which saves the character right there at the camps current location, but for a somewhat high price (although it would be a bit hard to explain story-wise how they can work in SL).
Among the NPCs there could be a supplier who sells some basic stuff like ammo and SL medical gear (in QLs fitting the given zone, the same as found in the gardens), and a head scientist who gives simple template missions (with a maximum amount that can be pulled and active at a given time) which require the player to kill a small number of specific random type mob, or collect some common loot (eg. bring some pieces of coral, a few immortal fungi, etc.) or insignias, for credits + XP reward; something about needing samples of this and that for further study.
As some more flavour, there could also be military camps (only clan/omni of course) where instead of science personnel, some task team would be present, and their leader would give kill missions targeting specific type of sided mobs, and also would offer reward (maybe even tokens?) for handing in any kind of sided weapons of the enemy faction (as a proof of kill).

Sided camps could (should?) be hostile towards players of the opposite faction: guards would attack them on sight (except neutrals), other NPCs would not talk to them (not even to neutrals) and facilities would not be usable by them (also not even by neutrals), while RK neutral and JAME camps would be open for everyone for all purposes.

While this would put some additional work on the GM/ARK team, having to keep track of the currently existing camps and moving them when they've been in their current place long enough (and the devs if any additional coding would be required to be able to do this; I know objects and NPCs can be spawned for events and such as it is, but making them be able to respawn by themselves, restrained to their camps, etc. probably does need new code), it would make the SL environment somewhat less static and more interesting, they would be a reward of the sort for people who like to explore when they stumble upon such a camp, and maybe the missions offered at these camps would slightly motivate some people to do some outdoors hunting.

I'm rather half and half with this.

    1) Having more JOBE nubs in SL would explain why the Yuttos in Inferno are freakin out when there is only 1 (Nonya) in Inferno looking at spirits.

    but on the other side..

    2) Having a more humanoid presents seems kind of awkward... I would think it would be better if more Yutto NPCs were assisting jobe scientists (but you know from Scheol Quest that they aren't forthcoming with information...

If anything I'd want remains or strewn records of Jobe Researcher camps.. or maybe even activators around SL that would explain some history of the xan beyond what the Scheol/Adonis/Penumbra explain. Scheol Quest gets rather deep when you read it straight.. and if it had just a little more plot could have an epiphany there.

Activators could be some logic (lets say npc somewhere gives you a voice transmitter) that when you use the Activator and the Transmitter begins relaying a saved audio file (shows up as text in game) about the area.. Explaining what the scientists learned about the area.

A short example being the first incarnator you see in Nascence, after you get a transmitter (inside your bracer from Training Island). When you walk up to the incarnator and "use" a small button near the Reincarnation Apparatus.. the transmitter gives a brief synopsis of the researchers findings

Ex: As you walk up to the Nasc Incarnator

*The Transmitter begins to vibrate and a loud buzzing sound radiates from it... eventually quieting down to someone's voice*

Transmitter: My word.. what is this. We have heard from this strange manifestation called "Ergo" that these things are Incarnators. We were shocked to find out that with a bizarre process called "spirit-tech" we could summon dead creatures and beings back to our plane of existance.. even if they had been dead for a millenia! We are not quite sure how they work.. but Ergo gave us a clue from his records.. although they were damaged from electromagnetic interference.. One member of our expedition team heard "Pattern" and "Novictum" in the old file. We have found a few patterns ripped apart on monsters around Central Nascence.. 1 of which we managed to find and rebuild into a strange square.

*The message is silent for a few seconds*

Ergo Recorded in Transmitter: Oh my! The new masters have found a Complete Pattern! Well done! Now you do know how to novictalize a pattern right?
Yira Altin - Head Researcher: Err... what?
Ergo: Ah.. yes.. you are new here sorry master. *Ergo bounces* You need to find a Crystal Filled by the Source and a small piece of Novictum and combine them all. Once you find go back to the incarnator and all shall be made clear! Here are some of crystals and novictum, they are normally from creatures here in Nascence, but why delay the anticipation!

*The message trails off for a minute....and then*

Transmitter: We are back at the incarnator. Not sure what to do with this Etched Pattern we made with the parts from Ergo, but might as well try it out. George, come up here and try this, be careful.. if anything happens we have doctors on standby.
    George: Alright then..

*He uses the Pattern on the Incarnator*

    George: Yaaaaaa!! *death wail*

Yira: What the hell was that!? Arrrg!!!!

*Crippler sounds are heard in the transmitter...along with 10 other people getting massacred... then the message trails into fuzz*

/text What ever happened there.. they must not have been prepared for it..
