How about something along the lines of that bad tempered, psychotic alien pet (the one that looks like a largte tomato with feet) from John Carpenter's "Dark Star"?

It's in keeping with the Pink Panther/Kato thing that somebody mentioned a while back and it's still sci fi in concept.
